Hemant Soren government appoints Ajay Kumar Singh as new DGP

The appointedAjay KumarSingh as the new director general of Police (DGP), ending the prevailing suspense of a headless police force after the retirement of the outgoing incumbent Neeraj Sinha last week.
The state Home, prison and Disaster Management department issued a notification of transferring Singh, who was serving as the chairman-cum-managing director of theJharkhand PoliceHousing Corporation Limited with the additional charge of the director general of the anti-Corruption bureau, as the new DGP.

Singh, an Ips officer of the 1989 batch, was among the three officers approved by the Union Public Service Commission for the post.

India Wins GSMA Government Leadership Award 2023

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modis visionary Leadership gets global recognition. GSM Association (GSMA) has conferred Government Leadership Award 2023 to India for implementing best practices in telecom policy and regulation.

GSMA, which represents more than 750 mobile operators and 400 companies in the telecom ecosystem,recognizes one country every year. India was declared winner in the ceremony held at Mobile World Congress Barcelona on 27 Feb, 2023.

A Post Budget webinar on Unleashing the Potential ease of living using Technology held on 28th February 2023. The webinar was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi with his address to participants which included associations, academia, experts, civil Society and Government officials. In his address he emphasized on the need to enhance Ease of Living by using technology with human touch. He also reiterated that benefits of digital revolution should reach nooks and corners of the society. India has skilled manpower, talented youth, technology adoption capacity which empowers India to become Viksit Bharat by 2047. He also urged that we must identify 10 problems being faced by our country which can be solved using technology and innovative solutions.

Aadhaar holders have carried out over 9029.28 crore authentication transactions so far including 199.62 crore in January 2023 alone, indicative of the Growth of digital economy in the country.

While a majority of the authentications transaction numbers were carried out by using biometric fingerprint, it is followed by demographic and OTP authentications. In the month of January, 135.53 crore biometric fingerprint-based authentications were carried out, an indication ofits usage and utility in the daily lives of residents.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has already rolled out a new security mechanism for Aadhaar based fingerprint authentication. The Artificial Intelligence and machine Learning (AI/ML) based security mechanism developed in-house is now using a combination of both finger minutiae and finger image to check the liveness of the finger print captured.

More than 1100 government schemes, programs and initiatives in the country run by both centre and states have been notified to use Aadhaar. The digital ID is helping various ministries and departments in the centre and at states in improving efficiency, transparency and delivery of welfare Services to the targeted beneficiaries.

The longest continuous observations of the Sun taken fromKodaikanal Solar Observatory (KoSO)–one of the oldest astronomical observatories have been digitised and made available for community use. The digitised record of solar observations over more than 100 years taken on photographic plates/films can help scientists around the world strengthen their studies of solar variability and its impact on climate, spanning it over a longer time scale.

The data isavailable as open data that can benefit students and scientists across the world. This data will be a vital asset for the solar community for understanding the behaviour of the Sun in the past, over more than a century, and predicting the future of our life-giving star.
