Jamshedpur gets its first ‘Satellite Mobile Eye Clinic on Van’
Jamshedpur Eye Hospital (JEH) kicked-off the New Year 2023 with the inauguration of its first ‘Satellite Mobile Eye Clinic on Van’ as part of its larger community outreach programme to eliminate avoidable visual impairment among the local population.  JEH will also be starting its new software-assisted ‘Lazy Eye Therapy’, in collaboration of Bynocs Solution, in which selected cases of adult amblyopia, a condition leading to loss or lack of development of clear vision in one or both eyes, to treat by a six-week software assisted Video Gaming Program.
The inauguration of the new programmes and facilities took place at a special event in the JEH complex.  The event saw the presence of officials from the hospital, key members of the Rotary Club and officials from Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) and Tata Steel.  The new ‘Satellite Mobile Eye Clinic on Van’ is being launched in collaboration with Rotary Club of Jamshedpur & TSF.
Given the shortage of healthcare professionals especially the specialist-cadre and trained paramedics, JEH plans to establish itself as a ‘Teaching and Training Eye Centre’ to produce well-trained, efficient Ophthalmologists and Optometrists to serve the country and this region to reduce prevalence of blindness of India from 1.99% to 0.3%.   JEH is already empanelled with Arka Jain University for providing one-year mandatory Internship training to the final year student of BSc. Optometry on a selection basis.  The hospital also plans to start the post-graduate fellowship training programme in cataract and other sub-specialties as well as start post-graduate DNB Teaching in Ophthalmology soon.

Govt Eyes $17 billion Cut in Food, Fertiliser Subsidies in 2023/24
India aims to cut spending on food and fertiliser subsidies to 3.7 trillion rupees ($44.6 billion) in the fiscal year from April, down 26% from this, to rein in a fiscal deficit that ballooned during the COVID-19 pandemic. Spending on fertiliser subsidies will likely fall to about Rs 1.4 lakh crore. That compares with nearly Rs 2.3 lakh crore this year.
Food and fertiliser subsidies alone account for about one-eighth of India’s total budgetary spending of ?39.45 trillion this fiscal year, but reducing these subsidies could be politically sensitive given the impending elections.
The government anticipates allocating roughly 2.3 trillion for food subsidies in the upcoming fiscal year as opposed to 2.7 trillion for the year that has just ended on March 31.
The amount spent on fertiliser subsidies will probably decrease to roughly 1.4 trillion in contrasts to 2.3 trillion this year.
