  • JNAC to make Jamshedpur first cow dung free city
  • After becoming first zero waste water discharge city Jamshedpur is on its way to become ‘India’s first’ cow dung free city, thanks to an initiative by the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC)—the local urban body managing the civic amenities and services in non-Tata Steel areas of the city.

  • The cowshed and cattle owners will have to pay a monthly fee to the firms as fixed by JNAC in lieu of collection of the cow dung. It may be around Rs 100 per month per cattle. Besides, the companies will also have the right to sell the cow dung, make compost, etc and JNAC will collect a nominal fee from them annually.

  • Earlier, JNAC had also announced an online exercise of registering pet animals in the city and imposed nominal tax on citizens having pet animals in July this year. It had listed dogs, cows, bullocks, buffaloes, horses, elephants and camels etc. as pet animals.
