  • CM Raghubar Das urges people to give up plastic use

  • Chief minister Raghubar Das  urged the people of Jharkhand to come together and help in getting the state rid of plastic use by 2019.
Das reached out to the audience gathered at the Tana Bhagat Indoor Stadium in Mega Sports Complex in Hotwar during an event organised by the state ministry of forest, environment and climate change on the occasion of World Environment Day.

  • Jharkhand government had in September last year imposed a complete prohibition on plastic carry bags across the state after waking up to the health and ecological hazards being caused by it. However, despite the ban, plastic has been in use clandestinely in some places and openly in others as the government machinery failed to reign in on its sale and production.

  • Das also announced that his government will set up a plastic recycling plant in the state. Raking up the recent incidents where high pollution in the state’s rivers, lakes and ponds are causing the death of fish and other aquatic species, the CM also outlined that power plants in Jharkhand will be mandated to use recycled water in coming days.
