Jharkhand is one of the richest mineral zones in the world and it has 40% and 29% of India’s mineral reserves and coal reserves respectively. This statement is sufficient to verify that Jharkhand enjoys a unique geographical advantages.
Jharkhand is rich in mineral resources, most of the area lying on chhota Nagpur plateau, such as coal(27.3% of total India’s reserve), Iron ore(26% of India’s reserve), copper ore(18.5% of India’s reserve), uranium, mica, bauxite, granite, silver, magnetite, dolomite. Jharkhand is the only state in India to produce coking coal, uranium and pyrite. Near about 27% of iron reserve is with Jharkhand i.e . it rank second among all states . So its richness in the mineral reserve imparts it a unique geographical advantage.
The other important factor is its location near the major ports.( It is advised to draw map) near Haldia and Paradip. These ports facilitate the export of raw and processed mineral. Jharkhand is one of the important vehicle, if India wants to improve on its industrial sector. Damodar valley is called Ruhr of India. The Damodar valley project conceptualised on the lines of Tennessee valley authority has ensured power supply to big projects here.
