Improving rural economy key to progress: Soren
Chief ministerHemant Sorenon Wednesday felicitated 400 members of self-help groups hailing from ultra poor household community for overcoming odds to learn livelihood earning skills.
The occasion was the graduation ceremony of the first cohort of 400 Women hailing from Lohardaga, Gumla and Latehar districts who were provided various livelihood skills through a three-year programme by the Bangalore-based The/Nudge Institute under its End Ultra POVERTY programme. It was supported by theJharkhandState Livelihood Mission and Union rural development ministry.
Officials of the institute on the occasion said that the End Ultra-Poverty aims to contribute to the governments efforts to target the ultra-poor at large scale. The programmes journey started in Jharkhand in 2018. KPMG, L&T Infotech and The Rockefeller Foundation are key partners of the programme enabling The/Nudge to create impactful change in the lives of the women in Jharkhand and across India.
Collectively in all the three district, this programme is supporting around 4,000 households since three years.
The/Nudge started this programme in Jharkhands three district in 2019 targeting 4,000 households in the first phase. The first batch of 400 rural women who graduated from the ultra-poverty programme have done so through their resilience despite the twin waves of Covid-19, said officials.

Forex Reserves at $562.9 bn; Fall by $70 bn in 2022
Indias Foreign Exchange reservesfell by $70.1 billion in 2022, data released by theReserve Bank Of India (RBI)shows. The forex reserves stood at $562.9 billion in the week ended December 30. The decline in theforex reservesis partly due to theRBIinterventionin the currency markets to stave off volatility and partly on account of depreciation of other major currencies held by the central bank. The RBI net sold $33.42 billion till September,Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharamansaid. The RBI holds major currencies includingpound sterling, yen and euroin its reserves, which are expressed in US dollar terms.
According to a survey by Avtar, a company that specializes in workplace inclusion,Chennaiis Indias top city for womens employment. Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai are the next best cities for womens employment.
According to criteria that support an ecosystem that is favourable for womens EMPLOYMENT, the research ranks 111 cities.
The remaining Top 10 cities for womens employment are Ahmedabad, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, Coimbatore, and Madurai; each has a Population of over a million people.
In another group of cities with a population under one million, Tiruchirappalli, Vellore, Erode, Salem, Tirupur, , Shimla, Mangalore (officially Mangaluru), Thiruvananthapuram, and Belagavi are the top 10 cities.
The top five state Averages in the nation were achieved by Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh.
